We've been installing remote starters since they first came on the scene in the early 1990's, and some of our installers are still with us! We've literaly installed thousands. TRANSPONDER BYPASSES CAN ADD $50-$100 TO A REMOTE STARTER, what's with that?
Most newer vehicles have anti-start/theft systems to protect the vehicle from being stolen (started without a key). These typically are a transponder or 'chip' imbeded in the key which sends out a low powered, coded signal to the car's computer identifying it as one of the only keys that will be allowed to start the vehicle. The easiest way to bypass this system is to take one of your keys and place it in a module that can read the code and send it to the vehicle's computer when the remote start is activated. But you don't get your key back, it's actually in your car, up under the dash in the module. These modules cost $49 and are sold seperately from the remote starter. If you have no extra key, you can now use the newest technology. Fortin and ADS make modules that can "clone" the code from your key. These are more expensive, typically costing $69-$99, But are ususally less than the cost of an additional key and are becoming the norm in remote start installation.
